Will a network-down alert actually wake me through silent mode on my iPhone?
Admins on call need a page that arrives and gets through Do Not Disturb. How SoloNOC sends a critical page, which channels are live, and what it cannot do yet.

In admins’ own words
“it needs to send an alert to my iPhone that will pierce through possibly enabled sleep/silent mode”
“no notification delivered”
“Claimed website was up when it was down.”
What it is
A page that arrives silently is a page that did not arrive. iOS has levels for this: a normal notification is held by Do Not Disturb and Focus, a time-sensitive one is let through them, and a critical alert sounds even with the ringer off, but only for apps Apple has granted that entitlement.
How SoloNOC does it
- A critical alert goes to the SoloNOC iPhone app as a time-sensitive notification with sound at the highest delivery priority, so Do Not Disturb and Focus let it through. A warning goes out passive and waits for morning. (pinned by: pushSeverity.spec.ts, alert_severity_claim.py)
- The iPhone app carries Apple’s time-sensitive notifications entitlement, without which iOS would quietly downgrade those pages. (pinned by: test_time_sensitive_entitlement.py)
- Alerts also go out by email and by webhook, including a Slack payload. (pinned by: deliveryAddresses.spec.ts, email.spec.ts)
Not built or not measured yet
Not through the ringer switch: a true critical alert that sounds with the phone set to silent needs a separate entitlement from Apple, which SoloNOC does not have.
Text-message alerts are built for paid plans but have not yet been delivered to a customer’s phone. There is no Android app yet.
What admins report from other tools
Reviewers of uptime monitors report notifications that were never delivered, and a monitor that called a site up while it was down.
Make sure a critical page reaches you
- Install the SoloNOC iPhone app and sign in.
- Allow notifications, and leave Time Sensitive Notifications on for SoloNOC in iOS Settings.
- If you use a Focus mode at night, allow time-sensitive notifications in it.
- Add an email address or a Slack webhook as a second channel.
Questions
- Does a SoloNOC alert get through Do Not Disturb on iPhone?
- Critical pages do: they are sent as time-sensitive notifications, which Do Not Disturb and Focus let through. Warnings do not.
- Will it ring with the phone on silent?
- No. That needs Apple’s critical-alerts entitlement, which SoloNOC does not have.
- Which alert channels are live?
- Push to the iPhone app, email, and webhooks including Slack. Text messages are built for paid plans and not yet delivered to a customer.
